Published by Le Civette Saggi, for Venexia Editrice, The Myth of the Goddess has finally arrived in Italy 25 years after its first publication thanks to the efforts of Luciana Percovich.
The book reconstructs the history of the evolution of human consciousness from the phase of sacredness and harmony with nature, venerated as the Great Mother for very long millennia lasting from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age, to the still dominant one established with the victory of the monotheistic religions and transcendent, which has produced disastrous effects both on the human psyche and on the relationship with life on the planet.
A monumental study that presents itself as an easy-to-read and richly illustrated synthesis of vital current issues not only for female spirituality, but for all those who care about a different future. Marija Gimbutas called this text “a magnum opus indispensable for anyone approaching the study of the genesis and development of religious ideas". On the occasion of its release, the book was presented this year in Rome, Pescara and Foggia; the reports created for the event produced interesting research ideas that we wanted to share on this page.

The videos
Published by Le Civette Saggi, for Venexia Editrice, The Myth of the Goddess she is in Italy thanks to her commitment as editor of the Le Civette Saggi series for Venexia Editrice. Luciana is one of the four co-founders of Authors of Civilization where the section follows The roots of the Sacred for the search for the historical and mythological roots of the times before patriarchy, the religious imagery of monotheisms and the effects of the lack of the "divine feminine" on the deepest psyche of women and men; she is also one of the three co-founders of the site Prehistory in Italy. This video is his presentation of the book which took place in Pescara.
The work created for the presentation of Foggia and Pescara presents a sequence of slides that show a particular interpretation of the most ancient representations of the goddess. Many of the images that make up the work were created by herself during the journeys undertaken in search of iconographies of the goddess often hidden by stories and cultures that have overridden their source. Alessandra is one of the four co-founders of the site Authors of Civilization of which she is the webmaster and one of the three co-founders of the site Prehistory in Italy. For a better view of the material, please refer to the slide sequence.
His speech focuses on the second part of the book, in particular: the myth of Adam and Eve and the figure of Mary of Nazareth. The biblical narrative of Adam and Eve tells of the reversal of the civilization of the Goddess.
- Eve being born from Adam's rib reverses the order of creation.
- The Snake from a symbol of life and generation becomes the tempting devil.
- Eve inaugurates death without rebirth, the fruit of guilt.
Mary of Nazareth, in addition to being a figure who acts as a counterpart to Eve, represents a bridge, a connection between the civilization of the Goddess and Western patriarchy. In fact, she is considered the most recent incarnation of the Mother Goddess that Western "Christian" humanity has given itself. It is her very name that connects her to the tradition of the Great Mother: Maria, from the Latin "mare" means "sea". From where the great goddesses are born such as the Sumerian Nammu, Isis, Aphrodite... Sea as a watery abyss, primordial womb of life...
