UNESCO recognizes Marija Gimbutas as one of the prominent figures to be accorded public international recognition for the merits obtained in the field of knowledge and the cultural development of humanity, and has included the date of his birth among his commemorations for 2021.
Gimbutas' pioneering archaeological research, which focused on Neolithic European societies (6500-3500 BC), led to the foundation of a new interdisciplinary field, thearchaeomythology and to a revolutionary new understanding of the beliefs, rituals, symbols and social structures of these early societies.
“Wisdom Across the Ages: Celebrating the Centennial of Archaeomythologist Marija Gimbutas” is the online symposium scheduled for 16-18 July 2021, organized by The Association for the Study of Women and Mythology (ASWM) in collaboration with Institute of Archaeomytology. The symposium will highlight Gimbutas' life and research and recent developments in the broad field ofarchaeomythology; there are many important participations by scholars and researchers who will talk about the civilizations ofAncient Europe and contemporary cultures based on land values.
